The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 末日跑酷与奇幻纯爱大片，人鱼公主和王子的童话新编，少年少女命定相遇坠入爱河、遇见你让我找回完整的自己、拯救恋人化为泡沫消散，俗套又中二，以宇宙银河、漩涡、台风、斐波那契数列等“螺旋形态”来阐释生命毁灭与重生的哲学，看似抛出了高大上的立意，可到最后却连神秘“泡泡”的来历都没解释清楚。集结了一众业界大佬的豪华主创阵容却没有拍出能够与之匹配的神仙级动画作品无疑令人失望，剧本随意到想一出是一出（虚渊玄把锅背好），各种元素缝合，只顾陶醉于炫技，剧情约等于没有，除了制作精良以外找不到其他亮点，投资方网飞的品味也有够老土。大概经过诚哥的洗礼以后，真对这套感动不起来了。
画风不错，有些帧可以当壁纸很赞，然后没了。
设定非常混乱，老套的人类和美人鱼的故事，不断重复的动作片的分镜让人视觉疲劳，泡泡和背景叠片出来的视效一言难尽，结尾立意不知所云
但是霸权社的制作和泽野的音乐还是值得给个不错的分。
平庸陈腐，毫无新意的末世世界观，慢吞吞的低质量跑酷，照抄《你的名字》的男女主，从配乐到作画都流水线到要命。
《海的女儿》最新同人，王子和小美人鱼一同参加了东京电视台主办的末日版“男生女生向前冲”。如此不计工本，制片人和投资方都安徒生铁粉啊，我先干为敬！（中文翻译成泡沫应该更好：美丽的泡沫……）噢，对了，正确的观看方式是拆成几段随便看看，因为没有剧情，只有跑酷，连着看累死了，哈。
我觉得小畑健和老虚要负主要责任，画面演出真的尽力了
但是霸权社的制作和泽野的音乐还是值得给个不错的分。
虚无缥缈不知所云的内核加上莫名其妙的跑酷加上神魔恋的戏份，欣赏无能。
以《海的女儿》为蓝本，结合末世情节（我认为是核战争的诗意表达），宣扬爱的主题。
以及就这制作，小畑的人设有啥意义？让荒木哲郎来导有啥意义？这两人的优势全被吞掉了啊
罪恶王冠精神续作……关键是跑酷片段也不咋滴啊，经费充足却缺乏创意和灵魂，水准还不如一些非专门类作品里的跑酷片段。
为什么日本人拍废土朋克也要强行小清新啊啊啊啊
废墟跑酷也能整一部动画，只交代了个大致背景就开始搞事情也是醉了，故事内容无，空有画质，无法被满足。

技术力是有了，作画很漂亮，但就是一点也喜欢不起来。很多看了像吃苍蝇一样的桥段，看内核的话根本就是落后于时代的作品。
说真的没那么差，画面分镜音乐都足够出色，但老虚的剧本真的低于平均线太多了，能写出FZ的人怎么还能写出来这玩意。
海的女儿重构版 去爱吧 化成泡沫也在所不惜 「配乐绝了」
没有评论的那么差、刨除过分唯美竟然比你的名字耐看不少：动态，人物，逻辑各方面。
画面的色彩真的是鲜艳的不要不要的。如果喜欢这种爱他救他即使牺牲自己也无所畏惧的爱情故事可以一看。有“密集恐惧症”的人对后半部分画面慎重观看，可能会不适。BGM给我听累了，跑酷看着也有点那么累……剧情有点bug，如果拿戴了手套的手去牵男主她不会就可以不消失半条胳膊吗？不过这种讲爱情的故事环节必须按头感人，那我就不计较了。
