The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. Darren and Annie still enjoy each other’s company and laugh at each other’s jokes, but, unfortunately, they can’t remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? 影片根据真实历史事件改编，马丁路德金被刺杀，越南战争，尼克松上台激发的一系列国家内部政治、民族、反战冲突，一股脑的在本片里层次分明的一浪浪席卷过顶，让人窒息不已。
剧本的设置也极为精彩。
在美国大选前放出这电影居心叵测啊。电影从人出发再到人，体现不仅美国政体优势和劣势也体现了作为人的权利。艾伦·索金又一部精彩的庭审故事，开场第一次庭审就张力十足，且勾勒出几位角色的性格。演员台词功力好强剪辑好棒
艾伦·索金太厉害了，一个封闭空间里群像塑造，故事节奏时刻在线。虽然不断来回的博弈，以及不断闪回的记忆片段，会让人稍显不解，但很快又拉回主线。最后的结案也太燃了！竟然看泪目了！！呜呜呜，抵抗非正义的战争，和平万岁！！
真正牛逼的是片子讲故事的形式，多角度多种叙事，正常叙事、脱口秀、历史影像交叠去拼凑出来一个时代风貌，让它既夸张到锣鼓喧天，又没有丢失扎根历史本身的重量。
片尾曲缓缓唱道“let us make a world in which I believe”, sounds attempting but how selfish, and unfortunately this has always been the American ideology.
最后的结案陈词说得人心沸腾，政府并不能代表国家本身，国家真正做主的应是人民本身。抛开电影回到反战这个点，美国人反战反的是他们的士兵与钱财在战争中受损而非战争的本身，这大家都知道的吧，毕竟“the whole world is watching”。

一场长达151天的审判，艾伦索金通过聚焦庭审过程的某些天将审判前的暴乱与庭审现场巧妙地结合在一起，清晰地展示出那一段历史。编剧出身的艾伦索金在片中依然是金句频出，尤其是艾比霍夫曼作为证人出场的那场戏，让我热泪盈眶做了好几次深呼吸，释放了之前观影过程中的为他们感到不平的委屈。之前看了黑豹党的一个纪录片，看完本片后找了找，好像被我删掉了。
索金可以可以 这剪辑手法我真的太喜欢了 结尾稍微有点刻意哈 虽然跟辩护人结尾方式很像 但是感觉辩护人含蓄得更合理些

相當精彩的劇本和調度,角色設計立體演員也非常出色,由頭至尾相當緊湊,當中不乏很多精彩對白和對於社會上的批判,在此段時間播出,無論在美國或者是對此相當熟悉的香港,真是別有一番體會,Give me a moment, would you, friend? I've never been on trail for my thoughts before

小小的法庭，完整描绘了整个社会的撕裂感，老法官代表了极其迂腐傲慢的美国官僚制度，年轻一辈繁多的面孔都让人振奋不已。
