The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. DEH无论是音乐剧还是电影对我而言都十分煎熬，因为没有办法不按暂停完整地看完。看着埃文迈出一步、又迈出一步、再迈出一步、最后回头发现自己不堪的倒影的过程纯粹是折磨。但是为什么没有anybody have a map和good for you！多好听的歌！
本来是很好的主题 结果全程没有一点被感动到 唉

高分音乐剧，改编成这样，评分还日渐下滑，也是真行呵！

大概是因为之前听说音乐剧版挺不错期待值太高，反正这个影版是觉得挺一般的。歌还不错，但就是这个剧情…自杀小哥到底是个啥样的人？以及主角和小哥妹妹那个恋爱尬到我了

不知道是音乐剧看太多遍了还是歌儿听了太多遍，改编成电影后感觉节奏变快了，但本的表演真是太棒了。个人感觉把唱歌部分全去掉，只以BGM的形式穿插，花更多时间做铺垫，把人物形象塑造更饱满一些，观感可能更好。电影出来之前，我幻想的evan爬的那棵树是在一大片绿油油的草地上，一颗孤独的大树拔地而起，他努力爬到树顶，眺望远方的落日，夕阳余晖散落在他稚嫩的脸庞，眼里熠熠生辉。

完全没明白Alana为什么要公开那封信……
没记错的话，电影删了好首歌，Evan和妈妈的Anybody Have a Map?，Good For You,还有和Conner的Disappear（这首我真的不理解为什么删！！！）,和Conner爸爸的To Break In a Glove。
我不懂DEH为啥不像Hamilton那样放官设🚬效果绝对比这个改编版本好🚬算了我还是回纽约看吧🚬
看之前已经降低了预期值
看完了音乐剧，勉强打个四星拉拉平均分，说小本太老不适合演的我也不知道说啥了
歌太好听了依旧很好哭 但是有些舞台能表现出来的留白和共鸣电影就完全夺走了这种空间
适合音乐剧的表情 在电影镜头中放大 就会略显浮夸 但是当作二刷边看边唱 体验也不太差
