The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 关于成长。 跟每一个朋友告别，希望他们幸福，碇真嗣终于长大了。荧幕外的自己也长大了，从第一部时不喜欢眼镜女，到最后也接受了眼镜女的存在。 最终生活在了没有EVA的普通世界（类似我们的宇宙），也不知道是好还是不好…… #三维量很大，感觉以后可以出三维动画版。
之前看剧透以为是故意而为的差结局；现在发现，如果我是明日香，剑介也会是我最好的保护者；如果我是真嗣，玛丽也会是我最好的保护者。
瘩子绝对是故意的，我怀疑为了强硬拼凑出“真嗣成长为大人”的剧情而瞎胡编乱造

所以我从来都不觉得孤单
作品很好，但因为CP组的太好了，一星好评必须给上!
一开始党争震怒，没看，热度下去后看了一下，算完美收官。
竟然这就是剧场版的终结，看完觉得有点虚无。自己十几年的喜爱竟等到这样一个结局……从电影院走出来后久久头晕，无话可说。除了有几个喜欢的镜头之外，我宁愿这部剧场版不存在。
8.0 冲击的大场面无论是多少遍都不会腻，但这部的态度完全是《真心为你》的反面，真嗣的孤独，自闭，悲伤被各种人的“甜言蜜语”化解了，没有人去理解真嗣反倒是真嗣理解了父亲……最后他符合所有人，所有观众期待的那样成长，这样的态度我只能说，Fuck you ！庵野秀明！
谁不是被迫匆匆长大的呢？……
众望之下没有拉跨，还是很不容易的，四星可以有。凌波党和褚熏党应该很满足。我就两个困惑，《Q》最后预告片里有2号机和8号机合体，这段是假的么；然后真希波《破》里还偷偷潜入总部《Q》里一开始咋就和总部老员工愉快地合作了，这剧情坑是忘了填还是咋地。emm…和老TV版比，最大的不足就是所有配角的形象都被弱化了，其他不说，律子姐姐作为老版最悲情人物（相继被家人和爱人抛弃，她不最惨谁最惨），新版里完全变成台词机，不过最后二话不说直接爆头司令也是挺爽。
虽然好多剧情也听不懂，但是也不妨碍日语渣渣在明日香把眼罩摘下以后开始爆哭到片尾曲。加持x美里也好好哭，最后碇唯出来的时候也狠狠地哭了一把。其实比起真嗣，一个更加成熟的路人会更能带给香香安全感吧，所以本香党觉得有个温柔的人可以给香香爱也挺好的。
漫长的中二时光终于结束了，痛快的哭了一场。2021，终。
像是痞子在《真心为你》报复社会后重新得到了一次机会来赎罪，还给大家一个美好的结局，与过去的所有人，剧中的、剧外的，一一和解。
谁不是被迫匆匆长大的呢？……
我讨厌充满这种人的世界
庵导想开了，我也想开了……虽然有不尽如人意的地方，但看完还是很震撼，就这样结束也不错。

前半部那种“生”的喜悦还以为是在看高畑勋，不过明日香是克隆人这个设定真的毫无必要。
