The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 清新脱俗又平易近人的动画电影，关于我们心中的野兽，关于文化和禁忌，关于身份认同，都在我们和父母那深深长长的爱里了。
西方电影中的中国元素经常是粤港台风味，中国字是繁体字，角色言语是粤语，弄不弄就要舞狮，家里经常有牌位供奉，这种文化并不是中国文化的主流，所以经常会被中国观众所嫌弃。本片就是如此，本片中的角色都是外籍华人，生活的区域是外国的唐人街，还出现了道士作法等封建迷信剧情，这些剧情并不能代表真正的中国文化。这种伪中国文化电影是不可能引进国内上映的。

不会要跟学生道歉吧？真道歉了；不会要说出两人真正关系吧？真说了。不会最后的高潮是自己给的吧？真是。一边烦躁一边被各种刻意投机土到的观影体验。
论皮克斯是怎么把第一印象很差的角色形象掰到超级可爱的… 男团很辣眼睛，但是细想不也是对应着我们年少时不忍直视的爱好或行为吗？

剧情稍弱，但作为皮克斯的中等水品作品，强大工业能力可见一斑
还是挺希望这样的片子有机会上院线的，不过看看眼下的疫情，可能越来越是奢望了。导演好年轻，内容里也有很多当下的表达，结尾要是更少些说教就更好啦。
以性意识觉醒来开启女性觉醒之路，如此切入视角的作品早就不计其数，并不新奇，也不震憾。但本片刻意设定一名高端、文明、知性、疗愈的男_性工作者来引领女主的觉醒之路，颇令人纳闷。第一，为什么男_性工作者的形象可以如此尊严、智慧、圣洁、高大？我好像没有看过类似的女_性工作者角色。第二，把男主的性工作纯粹美化为服务（老年）女性，谁信？这是有多自我感动、多么矫情？
太棒太棒了！讲亲子关系讲得这么通俗易懂，又感人至深！每个人都会或多或少感到共鸣😭皮克斯不愧是你！

延续了皮克斯原东家苹果公司的思路——新产品的秘诀是换壳。既然黑白色的功夫熊猫那么火，那就再在来一个！配合加拿大的枫叶红，整只红色熊猫，不会有人不喜欢吧？一只干脆面不过瘾，那就满屏干脆面jiong jiong跑。飞檐斗拱，祖先祠堂，道士法术，川菜竹林。标准件似的中国元素一锅拿下，这些只是卖相，无关紧要。关键是要做好故事核心。以女孩不再为了追求家人眼中的完美而违背心愿，最获得独立人格为主线，讲述了13岁小姑娘的成长。就这一点就足以让本片脱离低幼动画的范畴，这也是迪士尼高明或说鸡贼的地方。不过，拿中国妈妈，姥姥三代人来做丑角，虽最后和解，但也有点含沙射影，不太舒服。
理解关于女性寻找自我寻找性解放的部分，但是纯粹的买卖关系越界了就不再美妙了。
