The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 说实话非常无厘头、抓马、跳脱，香肠手之恋和浣熊料理王都可笑又好哭，但我有些厌倦这种应该用爱感化世界的主题了，我讨厌这种对残酷世界无逻辑的粉饰。
前半段觉得是一个脑洞片，后面越来越觉得想简单了，看到最后直接哭懵逼。非常奇妙的观影体验……最后懵逼了半小时左右，觉得导演已经把家庭中我最想表达的东西讲完了。
希望在石头宇宙，一起坠落吧。
不想过多评价，只想说，这得是多么痛苦的人，在人生中有多么后悔的人，才能写出和拍出如此的本子。这两个导演的前部作品瑞士军刀男，其实也是用这种荒诞来表现生活中巨大的痛苦。但是他们最终选择和生活和解，但这个世界上有多少是和解不了的啊
看着看着一股熟悉的感觉涌了上来。我完全理解了一切，这就是中年女性版EVA。 另外我觉得男主是去掉了成龙缺点的升级版成龙。
在我期望极高的情况下依然超出预期。绝对是越往后看越好看的电影，前半段简直就是吃了兴奋剂的沃卓斯基全家桶，而在快速剪辑把现实生活撕得粉碎之后，当观众已经被奇想、巧思、梗们晃晕之时，却又可以把碎片们重新拾起来呈现出来。“在普通人生活中寻找奥义”这一套已经不新鲜了，但花了大半部电影剪碎重拼的日常生活万花筒把这个俗气的道理展现得美妙绝伦。我总是认可那些试图给出答案而不只是提出问题的野心，它提出的问题那么大给出的答案又那么小，但论证过程太美妙了到结尾我已经觉得我可以接受任何答案。以及我绝对没想到传统的一代唐人街故事可以和平行宇宙科幻融合得那么完美，我将此归功于导演编剧的巧思。看完就回想，一个关于选择的故事，主角当然应该是一代移民；需要时空警察角色，但又不能与琐碎的日常生活割裂，还有什么比国税局更合适…
石头后面不太想看了已经，对“爱能战胜一切”的结局感到疲倦
最喜欢两坨石头对话那段，因为只有那里留白了，其他时间都塞得太满了，充满了家庭伦理、人生意义、科幻设定、动作场面、妆效和剪辑（庞大到要吐血的工作量）。以及，中国式家庭就是永远不接受Let go，怎么就原谅了。
这部电影根本也无从谈“美”，它的“美”像它本身一样充满了刻板印象。科幻的部分不值一提。
我真是服了好莱坞现在的调性，无论多么离谱的设定牛逼的特效最后内核都离不开家庭伦理剧……对了还要加一点lgbt的政治正确……仿佛世界末日前不跟家庭成员和解一下的宇宙就不完整。就算闺女成了各平行宇宙大魔头最后仍然可以来个青春期中二少女跟妈妈抱抱大和解；《不要抬头》讽刺程度拉满了……最后主角一家人仍然要手拉手共赴末日……
显而易见，不是多重宇宙，而是多重类型电影。虽然没什么意义，但又是一部让我感受到深处彩蛋与戏仿文化占据主要位置的时代的电影，《头号玩家》如是，《新蝙蝠侠》也如是。这么一想，进入西部片（而非真正的西部世界）的《回到未来3》总算回到了属于它的未来。
在电影院里爆哭，看完出来别人帮我扶门我都哭到说不出谢谢。和《Turning Red》其实是一个主题，但是表达得更爆炸更撕裂。这部电影带着我经历了“加速吧毁灭吧”的痛快的空虚，然后用简单直接包容的爱填满了这个虚空。所有对现状感到绝望的人，尤其是中国人都应该看这部电影，把自己掩藏在在习惯性麻木里的对现状感到的痛苦和对获得善意和爱的愿望一次过发泄出来，非常治愈。只要一想到父亲这个角色就会爆哭，加速人看不得这种无条件表达和追求善意的人。
两个多小时如坐针毡，彻头彻尾的煎熬，一星都不想多给，导演可能觉得自己拍的特别酷炫，不过是一坨五彩斑斓的翔，什么刻板印象ZZZQ都不屑得批，如此稀碎一地只剩煽情的空洞故事是怎么可以拍的如此臭长的
为啥那么多平行世界还是跟一个人结婚，好无聊

爱是唯一一个穿越时间和空间的东西，世界的真相也许只是虚无，但生活的的真相也许只是吵架后的一次拥抱。每当看到这种电影我都会哭，因为我没有拥有，所以我很羡慕。

可以打六星吗？我觉得Daniels的电影应该单独开个分类叫Acid Movie，因为1)居然可以如此形象地讲清很多抽象的概念 2）那么多鬼畜脑洞是怎么想出来的？？？（热狗人进化史那段直接笑炸）但是常常是笑完下一秒又被戳中哭点。跟瑞士军刀男一样这部仍然讲了很多精神世界和世俗生活之间的平衡挣扎与和解。东亚文化背景下的精神自由更艰难，你以为可以纵横宇宙达到nothing matters的境界了，其实还得回头看一眼有没有得到父母的认可。
